Craps Dice Control

Craps dice controlThe thought of being able to control the dice while playing craps is appealing to most gamblers, and of significant importance to craps players. If you could learn craps dice control, it’d be easy to start winning easy money at the craps table. There is a lot of discussion of whether knowing proper craps dice control is actually possible to learn and use in a casino setting.

You can find books and websites that swear craps dice control is real and practiced by players around the world. To uncover the truth of these claims, we have gathered a great deal of information about controlling craps dice throws at the table. After reviewing the evidence, you can decide if craps dice control is real or not. The only other way to throw the dice and be 100% accurate is to have loaded dice, and we recommend staying as far as possible from cheating. This doesn’t extend to online casinos, as the dice are virtual and use a random number generator, making it impossible to predict.

The Theory Behind Craps Dice Control

The theory behind craps dice control is that if you can throw a pair of dice the exact same way the chances the dice will land in the same way increases. By doing this and having it land in the exact same spot over and over again you can influence the resulting rolls based on how you set or hold the dice before releasing them.

For example, if you always pick the dice up with the three’s pointing up and five’s pointing to the left you should be able to roll the same numbers more often. Being able to have perfect craps dice control is not an easy feat, even in theory.

Train to be Precise

  • The problem is you have to train your body to operate in the exact same way every time in order to have a chance at successful results. You have to:
  • Grip the dice with the same pressure.
  • Release them at the same time.
  • At the same angle each time.
  • Make them have the same amount of elevation.
  • Hit the same spot with the same amount of force.

This is a form of muscle memory. Muscle memory is a real thing that athletes practice to master their sport. So if other people can do it, why can’t dice throwers do it as well?

In theory, they can and when you read the section about the mathematics behind getting an edge by controlling dice, you’ll see why so many people want to believe that craps dice control is possible.

Takes a lot of Practice

Practice craps dice controlControlling the craps dice obviously takes a great deal of work and thousands of hours of practice. Most people can learn to get an advantage against the casinos by counting cards at blackjack in less than 100 hours of work, so why would they do 10 times the work to learn how to control craps dice?

If you wanted to find an advantage over the casino, the first place to look would probably be card counting in blackjack. While it can take some players a long time to learn how to count cards, even the longest estimates are less than the shortest estimates on learning craps dice control.

Most players willing to do the work can learn to count cards well enough to break even in 10 to 20 hours of actual work. Then it’s just a matter of time and practice to get where you can beat the casinos.

Players that are not willing to invest 20 hours into learning how to count cards, would they invest more into learning craps dice control?

While it may seem like a rhetorical question, the truth is there may be an answer. Those that try to learn how to count cards use their mind, but when they try to control the dice they use their body. Many players are scared of the idea of learning how to count cards, but anyone can throw a pair of dice down the table. Players afraid that counting cards may require more math than you want to learn might still be interested in craps dice control.

Math Used for Craps Dice Control

Those that agree that controlling the roll of the dice is possible, how proficient do you have to be to swing the house edge into your favor? Let’s look at a couple craps dice control examples to see if we can determine the math behind this question.

#1

Example 1

The house edge on a place 8 bet is 1.52%, one of the lowest available at the craps table. If you make 100 bets of $100 each on the place 8 you wager a total amount of $10,000. In the long run, this means you lose $152 on your wagers of $10,000. Since each bet is $100, this means you lose 1.52 bets per 100 rolls.

So if you could turn two losing rolls into winning rolls, you change the loss into a win. Recognize that this is only two out of 100 rolls, or 2%. If you can alter the outcome of two dice rolls out of 100 in your favor, you can overcome the house edge. When you factor in the comps casinos give based on your play, this can be even more profitable.

This is the type of math that makes so many people believe in dice control. After all, with practice and skill surely you can get good enough to change two out of every 100 rolls.

Let’s look at the same type of math from a different angle.

#2

Example 2

Using the same place 8 bet and $100 bets over 1,000 rolls on a normal dice distribution you lose $1,520 of a total wagered amount of $100,000. The closest way to get to this outcome over 1,000 rolls is if you win 492 rolls and lose 508 rolls. This makes a total loss of $1,600, which is just over the expected value of $1,520.

In order to break even, you have to win 500 rolls and lose 500 rolls. This means you have to win 8 rolls that you would have lost. 8 out of 1000 is less than 1%, so if you can alter a single roll out of every 100 in your favor, you can overcome the house edge at craps.

This example is based on a 1 to 1 or even money payout so it’s easy to understand. The truth is that the place 8 wager pays 6 to 5 so the numbers are a bit more complicated. We’ve included the actual numbers in the next example, but as you’ll see the outcome is the same. Less than 1% of your rolls need to be altered in your favor to overcome the house edge.

#3

Example 3

We still use the place 8 bet with a payout of 6 to 5, bets of $100 each and1,000 total bets. If you win 447 bets and lose 553 bets your total loss is $1,660, which is slightly higher than the expected loss of $1,520. If you win 448 rolls and lose 552 rolls you lose $1,440, which is slightly less than the expected loss.

If you win 455 rolls and lose 545 rolls you win $100. So you need to alter somewhere between 7 and 8 rolls per 1,000 to break even. Once again, this is less than 1%, so you only need to change 1 roll out of every 100 from a losing roll into a winning one.

Even if you’re terrible at dice control, if you can practice enough to change the outcome of a single roll out of every 100 you can turn the tables on the casinos.

When you combine the idea of training and muscle memory with the math we just covered, it’s easy to see why many players believe they can control craps dice; with even more that believe other players have proper craps dice control.

However, just because it sounds good doesn’t mean it’s true. Now let’s look at evidence that suggests craps dice control is impossible.

The Reasoning Behind the Unbelievers

One of the first arguments made by people who don’t believe in dice control is the casinos aren’t doing anything to stop it from happening so they must not be worried about it. If the casino isn’t worried about dice control, then it must not be real.

While on the surface this sounds like a good argument, it isn’t based in fact. We don’t know what the casino are doing to control dice control players, and many craps games have rolls that aren’t allowed because they don’t hit the back wall.

Why Hasn’t It Been Proven?

No proof behind craps dice controlThe other argument is that if it can be done, why hasn’t it been proven? After all, it would be fairly easy to prove with video and a professional dice setter. Once again, this argument may sound good at first but just because no one has proved it, it doesn’t mean it’s not true.

If I could control the dice well enough to beat the casinos, the last thing I’d do is prove it. Why would any advantage dice player let the casino know they could win in the long run? It just doesn’t make any sense.

If you’ve ever seen a craps table or seen someone play, you have seen a pyramid shaped rubber object that lines the outer wall of the table. Players must throw the dice to the opposite end of the table and have the dice hit the textured wall.

The pyramid looking texture makes the dice come off the wall in what appears to be an unpredictable way. By looking at the walls and watching square dice bounce off them, it’s easy to see why many players don’t believe you can control the dice in a predictable way.

Nothing is 100% Perfect

Nothing made by man is perfect, including the dice and the walls of craps tables. The dice are close to perfect and when the walls are new they should be close to uniform, but over time, they can wear. Every small fraction of wear or manufacturer defect will alter the physics involved with how dice come off the wall.

An argument based purely on physics can be made that dice control is impossible. But most players don’t understand advanced physics concepts so they ignore this type of discussion.

Is Learning Craps Dice Control Worth It?

Before you decide if learning dice control is worth the effort, you have to decide if you believe it can be done. As you’ve seen in the discussion so far on this page, that isn’t a simple or straightforward thing to determine.

If you decide that it just can’t be done, then it’s clear you’ve decided it isn’t worth your effort. But if you believe that some players can control the dice enough to change the house edge, then you need to weigh the cost in time and money against the possible return.

Time & Practice

Depending on where you look, mastery time estimates range from 100 hours to over 1,000 hours. No matter how much time you believe it can take, there’s no doubt that it’ll take a long term commitment. You’re going to have to practice on a regular basis and dedicate a great deal of time if you hope to master the technique.

In addition to your time, you’re going to have to invest in at least a few items to practice. The casino won’t let you walk in and practice on their tables, so you need at least a small box to practice – a table is obviously much better.

A full-size practice table can cost $4,000 or more and even small practice rigs can run hundreds of dollars. If you want more information, you will need books or a seminar. A recent check of seminar costs was over $1,500 for a two-day class.

So you’re going to have quite a bit of money and effort invested before you have any chance of getting a return on your investment. Is it worth it? Only you can decide.

Alternate Methods

  • The biggest organization behind the craps dice control phenomenon is golden touch craps. They offer classes, have books and basically make money off teaching players how to control craps dice.
  • You can also read books about craps dice control.

We don’t recommend or support the golden touch group, nor do we suggest you avoid the group. They charge a great deal of money for their instruction, but if you decide they’re for real and can help you make money at craps only you can decide how much is too much to spend.

Craps Dice Control Practice Table

Craps dice control tableAnother method that many players go with is the craps dice control practice table. The table looks like it was cut out of an actual craps table, giving players the closest thing to actually owning a craps table. This is said to be a tool to help improve the craps dice control, but as mentioned above, there is no evidence this works effectively.

For those players that want to give it a try and use one of these dice control practice tables can easily find them online. Do not get your hopes up if they do not help you in the end, but it is still a great way to train and practice. If any player does use this table and see an improvement in their craps dice control, please let us know!

Conclusion

Throughout this page, we’ve tried to offer an unbiased view so you can decide if craps dice control is real or a hoax. It’s easy to make an argument that you can alter the outcome of at least one throw out of 100, but absolute proof has never been provided.

Sometimes people start believing something because they want it to be true, not because they have solid facts or evidence. Most gamblers want to believe that craps dice control is real because it would be a great way to make money.

Study what you can find about it and decide if you think you can get an edge by controlling craps dice. If you decide to give it a try, we wish you the best of luck.
