Beginning with a test launch in July of 2007 at the Fitz Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas, the A. Wheel Inc. company took its Alphabetic Roulette concept public.
The game’s invention is officially credited to Budimir Ilievski, who is also listed as the President of A. Wheel Inc.
Appearing like the perfect marriage between traditional roulette and modern video slot machines, the game of Alphabetic Roulette is played using the standard roulette table and wheel setup. But instead of the usual assortment of red and black spaces filled with numbers between 0 and 36, Alphabetic Roulette Online gives players a more engaging visual experience consisting of letters and colors.
As an addition to the world of roulette, one which can be considered rather boring when compared to the new hybrid games being created from other casino classics, Alphabet Roulette Online offers an interesting new look and feel for an age old game. But even though you’ll be spinning for letters in lieu of numbers, and a rainbow of colors rather than just red, black, and green, this new creation still hews closely to the gameplay structure of conventional roulette.
If you’ve never heard of Alphabetic Roulette, or perhaps passed by the table with a curious look back, this page should walk you through everything you need to know about the game. You’ll find a section covering the critical rule changes differentiating Alphabetic Roulette from the most common classic formats, along with advice on locating tables, and finally, a lesson to discuss odds and strategy.

Rules and How to Play
The wheel contains 25 spaces in Alphabetic Roulette, slimmed down from the usual 0/00 through 36 alignments found on basic roulette tables.
Each of the letters from A through X is represented by a single space on the wheel, with the Y and the Z sharing a space. This YZ space serves the role of the 0 or 00 space in many ways, and has no color (usually appearing in black).
The 24 single letter spaces are divided into six groups of six colors, based on the following configuration:
As the player, you have the option to make any assortment of individual wagers on where the next spin will land.
The available wagers in Alphabetic Roulette, alongside a description of each bet, and the corresponding payout, have been compiled in the table below:
|Straight Up||Any single letter, or YZ||23 to 1|
|Split||Any two neighboring letters||11 to 1|
|Top Line||A+B+YZ||7 to 1|
|Four Way||Any four neighboring letters||5 to 1|
|Color||Any color group||5 to 1|
|Six Way||Any of four groups of six letters (A-F/G-L/M-R/S-X)||3 to 1|
|Party Pit||Any in P+A+R+T+Y+I||3 to 1|
|Roulette||Any in R+O+U+L+E+T+T+E||3 to 1|
|Dozen||Any of two groups of 12 letters (A-L/M-X)||1 to 1|
|Column||Any of two alternating groups (A-C-E-G… or B-D-F-H…)||1 to 1|
Aside from the different visual style found on the Alphabet Roulette wheel, the actual gameplay mimics its namesake game to the letter. To learn more, visit our main guide about Casino Roulette.
How to Play Alphabetic Roulette
Step 1: Place Your Bets
Players can place any number of wagers on the table, using special roulette chips common to all roulette tables.
Step 2: Let the Ball Spin
Once the dealer waves their hand to signal the end of betting, players wait for the ball to finish spinning around the wheel.
Step 3: Ball Determines the Winning Letter
The final resting place of the ball determines the status of all pending wagers, with some bets winning and others losing.
Step 4: Lose Yet Still Win
Players can lose their straight up bet on a single letter, for example, while saving a small profit by landing the P with a Party Pit bet on the board.
Step 5: REPEAT Betting Option
One unique aspect of Alphabetic Roulette is the ability to make side bets on streaks, or runs of consecutive numbers. Essentially, players can opt to place a $1 wager on the “REPEAT” side bet circle, and if the next spin produces the same letter as the previous spin, all players with a REPEAT bet in play will earn $23 payout.
Step 6: Collect Chips or Let Them Ride
You can opt to collect those chips up front, or let it ride and hope that the same letter is landed upon for a third consecutive time. If the REPEAT bet turns up a winner once more, the player’s win jumps to $550, and again you’ll have the option to collect or let it ride. A third consecutive successful REPEAT bet produces a prize of $14,400. The prizes for the REPEAT side bet are fixed at those figures and will not progress over time.

Best Places to Play Alphabetic Roulette
It appears that Alphabetic Roulette never gained much of a foothold within the American casino landscape, and following the initial 2007 debut run at the Fitz Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas, not much has been heard about the game since.
The majority of the information available online referencing Alphabetic Roulette online is simply promotional material published by the game’s inventor. Unfortunately, the repeated attempts to sell vendors on the product, combined with a lack of any player reviews or reports from the casino floor documenting gameplay experiences, suggests that Alphabetic Roulette is not widely found at the moment.
The game may even be defunct at this point, but it never hurts to ask your local casino manager what they know about the game, and if you’re visiting Las Vegas anytime soon, stop by the Fitz Casino and Hotel and inquire about the game’s fate. Meanwhile, you can browse our hand-picked selection of best online casinos.
Strategic Considerations for Alphabetic Roulette
As an offshoot of roulette, and thus a pure game of chance, Alphabetic Roulette online offers no ability to influence the outcome through proper strategy. You can check the Wizard of Odds page for more information about this game.
And like the classic version of the game, all bets offer the exact same house edge of 4 percent, so none of the wagers on the table represent better or worse options comparatively speaking.
If you’re interested in seeing how that 4 percent house edge for all bets in Alphabetic Roulette stacks up to other common forms of the game, take a look at the table below:
|French Roulette||1.35 Percent|
|Atlantic City Roulette||2.63 Percent|
|European Roulette||2.70 percent|
|Alphabetic Roulette||4.00 percent|
|American Roulette||5.26 percent|
As you can see from these figures, Alphabetic Roulette is actually a better game from a player’s perspective, when compared to double zero American roulette. Because double zero wheels are most commonly found in Las Vegas, and throughout American casinos, locating an Alphabetic Roulette online game would represent a slightly better play than sticking to traditional roulette.
