The struggles for the Delaware Internet Lottery continue. The state’s regulated poker and casino industry generated $191,026 in July. That was down 32 percent from the previous year.
All three segments – poker, table games, and slots – were down against July 2016. Poker raked just $22,376 in July. While that was the highest since January 2016, it was down 34 percent from the previous year.
Table games won $39,377 last month. That is one of the worst performances for these games in the history of the Delaware Lottery’s iGaming. The hold for table games was 1.1 percent, lower than typical numbers. Harrington Raceway posted a table game loss of $803 for the month. Delaware’s online table games include only online blackjack and online roulette.
Video poker and slots took in $129,272 last month. This was below average for these games when compared to historical data.
There were 270 new accounts created at Delaware Lottery sites. These are operated through the state’s three racinos. The brands are Delaware Park, Dover Downs, and Harrington Raceway.
Obstacles Affecting Delaware Internet Lottery
The Delaware Lottery’s internet games have performed far below expectations and have shown no growth. There are several factors at play causing this.
There is little in the way of advertising for the state’s online poker and casino sites. This is because the state taxes revenues at a rate of 100 percent as it has not met the minimum projections to distribute to partners. This leaves little motivation for sites and providers to create promotions. The racino’s website just has a small tab in a nav menu.
The poker site does not have a VIP program of any kind. Combine that with the high rake on the site and it is difficult to keep players in the game as long as they experience at offshore sites.
Another issue with the poker site is that it is associated with WSOP.com in Nevada. The two sites share player pools, software, and support departments. WSOP.com has known player support issues.
The casino site only offers 12 online slot games not spread in brick-and-mortar casinos, one video poker title, blackjack, and roulette. This is a poor selection when compared to typical online casinos. It is difficult to retain casino players with this menu of games.
