The state of Massachusetts is welcoming its very first resort-style casino with the MGM Springfield opening for business today. Owned and set to be operated by MGM Resorts, the casino cost $960 million to create, with the brand working with local suppliers and vendors to see their project come to life.
Over 3,000 employees will call the new resort home, with two million square feet in space offered on-site. Home to a casino, hotel, dining and much, much more. The casino’s grand opening was scheduled for this morning (August 24, 2018) at 11 am around much fanfare, including a massive parade.
MGM Springfield – Highlights
The MGM Springfield is located on 14 acres of land near downtown Springfield. The venue will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offering a plethora of entertainment including a large gaming area. The casino is approximately 125,000 square feet in size.

Overnight guests of the property will be able to stay within one of the 250 guest rooms or suites, in the boutique hotel located on-site. Along with the casino and hotel, the property is home to The Plaza which is an open-air venue where musical acts will perform. MGM already has acts on the schedule to entertain their first visitors this weekend.
Additional entertainment available includes Top Golf Swing Suite, a seven-screen movie theater, and a full-service spa. Several restaurants are available for dining including the Tap Sports Bar where visitors can access a 10 lane bowling alley.
The OUSC Verdict
All eyes are on the casino with today’s opening. Gamblers of the state have waited patiently for a full-service commercial casino while MGM has waited to be able to provide gaming in the area. It will be interesting to see just how many visitors the property has once it opens and how much of a boost it gives the gaming industry of the state.
