Women push online gambling growth

It seems like women are upping their game and helping the online gambling industry grow at a significant rate. Mordor Intelligence LLP research company projects that by 2024 the online gambling industry will be worth $87.75 billion. This growth will mainly be thanks to women, and the advances in technology and AI.

News Highlights

  • Women drive online gambling industry growth
  • Innovations in technology triggers rise
  • Artificial intelligence (AI) is on the rise in the online gambling sector

Women Are Changing the Game

The impact female online casino players have on the online gambling industry is enormous. According to the study undertaken by the research company Mordor Intelligence LLP, there was a rise in the female casino population, noted in the poker sector.

Female Participation in Poker

Over the past few years, there was an increase from 3.8% to 4.1% of female participation in the mega-popular poker event World Series of Poker (WSOP).

An additional survey by 888, a casino giant, showed that 44% of the 2,000 women surveyed admitted they had played poker at least once in their lives. Out of those that have played, 81% admitted they enjoyed it.

Women in Social Games

But women are not only participating in casino games. There’s also an increase in the number of women interested in playing social games, at a rate of 15.5%, according to data provided by the Global Industry Analysts.

Namely, thanks to platforms such as Zynga Poker, which connect social gaming and gambling, potential growth in one sector may inspire a potential rise in the other, creating a correlation between the gambling and social gaming industry.

Women Feel Casinos are Intimidating

However, even though the two reports show women are getting into online gambling and poker, the experiences they shared have not all been positive.

The 888 survey showed that 32% of the women surveyed stated they were less inclined to play poker online because of their gender. Correspondingly, 47% of the female players said they felt casinos to be intimidating.

Therefore, they posed a new challenge for operators, which is dispelling stereotypes about the industry. They would have to nurture the female players’ growing interest in gambling and gaming. The evolution of technology might help here.

AI and Innovation in Technology

Mordor Intelligence LLP highlighted the innovation in technology as another driver of online gambling industry growth, more precisely Artificial Intelligence (AI).

According to its report, AI was also on the rise in the online gambling sector, suggesting that machine learning would improve gambling standards across the markets.

The report predicts that this, combined with improved Customer Support at online gambling sites via Live Chats and cashless payment methods, would increase online activity. Both men and women will get the chance to enjoy a better environment, enhanced with improved technology, hence, a better overall service.

Online Gambling Industry Growth

The overall conclusion is that there will be, indeed, a growth. At which rate, remains to be seen. The innovation in technology and Artificial Intelligence are the main drivers of growth and the reasons behind women’s ever-increasing interest in online casinos. They are interrelated factors that are driving the growth of the online gambling industry.
