In this role, Redd became known as the “King of Slot Machines.” Either in 1971 or 1975 (according to sources), Redd founded A1 Supply. In 1979, he changed the name to SIRCOMA, in reference to his experimental electronic slot machines (“SI Redd COin MAchines”). The next year, he would change the name to International Game Technology, as he prepared to take the company public. The initial public offering (IPO) happened in 1981.

Armed with cash, the new IGT began to invest heavily in new electronic slot machines. From its launch of Megabucks in 1986 to its rollout of Wheel of Fortune in 1996, IGT became the undisputed leader in land-based slot machines.
