If you have a Jack and an Eight, you have a hard total of 18. In the event the dealer has a Six, you go down the side of the blackjack strategy chart until you find the line for a hard 18. Then you go to the right until you find the column for a dealer six. The chart says to stand. You can choose to Stand, as suggested, or follow your gut. However, those that follow their gut usually lose. Stick to the strategy and it will payoff in the end.

The main reason learning the best strategy is important is that every situation at the blackjack table has a single best way to play. Some situations are unprofitable no matter how you play them, but by playing one way you’ll lose less money than by playing any other way.

The same is true for some profitable situations. You might be able to play them two different ways and make a profit either way, but only one way is the most profitable.
